On another note Hossa scores his 500th goal, congratulations to him. Funny how it happens when he's not paired with Toews

Hey JJ anymore news on the TVR trade front? What they might be looking for or what else might have to be included to get what they want?

Remind yourself not to easte posts based on a hawk practice that stretches our Rozsival next time, ok?

Yeah, we saw both our rookie defenders have a few hiccups, but you can't help but think their strengths of good feet and passing abilities will continue to see getting playing time. (and they never were completely Provorov-Like...)
Forsling is so good with the puck at his feet, and all around the older fella Kempny packs some wallop.
Sure I saw the poor puck decisions, especially the "pass" to Philly attackers, and Major leage speedsters turnng Forsling around a couple, but all in all, they can handle speed, and just need to understand the game decisions at this highest level might come at a price.

It is tough to pull either for TvR to get in there, because you are better off not benching guys b/c it gets them thinking in the wrong direction.

The rookies up front, well they have to play too, because each game let's them learn. They too will figure out the speed and pace only by playing.

I think I covered every aspect of the for and against of tarding TvR in the last blog...

Those 2nd cityhacks will always make a story where there is none.
Sensible trade candidate yes, but only if you get a match with return forward that fits both CAP-wise and line-up wise, and yesterday went team by team shopping and I don't see the Blackhawks just giving away an insurance defender unless that actually get a true need in the reurn CAP hit.

Nice to see the PAK line step up fro sure ,I think AA has been fighting something Illness injury since the start of the season .Thought Towes had a solid game ,and that line will need sometime to gel . You can always throw Hoss back up there at times and Motte down to the Kruger line. Congrats to Hossa on 500 !!! what a amazing feat and rarefied air he is in now .. Team lost a little focus after that big goal ,but only lasted about 5 min ,then they got back to dominating for the most part . Really like Hoss on that 3rd pair .

take any points that they can early. sloppy game last night, but maybe what they needed in a variety of ways.

1. lot of players got on the score sheet.
2. lines were able to play together for the majority of the night allowing the blender to take a break.
3. four quick goals from Philly was a good test to see how the Hawks would respond. good to see they held on at the end and not pani(k).

not sure what is worse right now...the Hawks PK or the Cubs 3-5 hitters

Toews with 2 shots on goal last night, actually 2 for each game played, Motte with 4 SOG last night? I know I'm beating a dead horse but Toews has got to shoot more, out of Panik, Motte and Toews who has the heaviest shot, Toews hands down, he's always looking to set someone up, put it on net and let Panik and Motte get the rebound since both are willing to go to the front of the net.

Among the vets that are part of the problem is Corey Crawford:

1-2, .884 3.41

He's also been part of the PK issues. Your goalie often needs to be your best penalty killer.

Had an easy workload last night through 37 minutes, and couldn't stop much when the Flyers finally got a few shots on goal. Really slow on the PP goal at the end of the 2nd.

Hopefully Darling gets the start in TOR.

Should be 50's last season in Chicago if the Hawks have any hope of signing 72 long term.

EDIT: For as good as Crow was all year in 15/16...he has been pedestrian (at best) in his first 3 starts.

Sorry for the scare in last night's game, everyone. The Flyers didn't score the four straight goals until I finally tuned in after watching the Cubs struggle all night.

Greetings everyone.

I am a senior citizen living in New Jersey and a long time Blackhawks fan going back to the early 1960's. Have enjoyed reading this blog and all your comments, and decided to join today. Although I love following the Hawks I have never played hockey and am not very knowledegable about the nuances of the game.

That said, I have a question that perhaps JJ or one of you who knows hockey better than I do could answer for me. Is it feasible to consider converting TVR from a defenseman to a wing? He seems to have offensive potential in his game, should certainly be defensively responsible, and is on a favorable contract. He also would add some much needed size to a relatively small group of forwards. I'm not saying he is the answer at 1LW but I don't think he would bring the 1LW answer in a trade either.

Does this make any sense?

I know I am gonna be shooting from the hip here, but anything happening with the Oilers on the trade front? Driasitl? I know it will cost, but you can't tell me for 1minute that Jonathen Toews is happy with what he has out there with him at this point and time.

History says it's not a really easy transition. The ones that have had some success at it are guys with very high end (or at a minimum, very unique) skills. Brett Burns, and Byfuglien, are the two contemporary guys that have had the most success, and they either bring immense size, or elite speed and shot accuracy. From what I've seen of his game, TVR looks like he would give you the same thing as Desjardins as a forward.

Feasible? Theoretically speaking, yes. Look no further than Dustin Byfuglien who came up as a defenseman, but has arguably been better in the NHL as a wing.

BUT . . . Byfuglien is an exceptional pure athlete with obvious, natural abilities that help as a forward (using his body to protect the puck, etc), while TVR is probably average at best as an athlete by NHL standards.

The thing is, what makes TVR an OK third pairing d-man is the way he thinks the position, not a ton of natural physical ability that, in turn, easily transfers to another position, where he would be somewhat disadvantaged thinking the new position due to a lack of experience there.

In other words, it would be a really long bet, and likely why it's not been tried.

Welcpme aboard, btw

Welcome.

As to your idea on TvR - I think he will see some time both at wing (on the 4th line at 5 mins a night) and back on the blueline. However, as a couple of others pointed out, I don't believe that the organization will "convert" TvR to wing.

Sometime this season, TvR may be wearing another team's sweater.

That power move he put on Gostisbehere was remarkable. And we have seen that before. More please.
